Statistical

Describe

Builds a one-glance summary table for a column of numbers: how many values there are, the average and median, the smallest and largest, the quartiles, and how widely the values are spread. It is the quickest way to get a feel for a column before building anything else on top of it.

Example

Feed in the Revenue column from 36 months of results and the output is a small two-column table:

Statistic Value
Count 36
Mean 412,500
Std 58,300
Min 298,000
Q1 371,000
Median 409,000
Q3 455,000
Max 540,000

The gap between Mean and Median tells you whether a few outsized months are pulling the average around; Std shows how bumpy the series is month to month.
